It's been a busy time for La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club members. In August, the Fresh Start Book Cart debuted at the Fresh Start Saturday event at the La Mesa First United Methodist Church. The monthly event provides breakfast, services, and resources to our neighbors in need. Fresh Start Saturday is going to become a regular service project for our Club and hosting the book cart is one of the ways we help.
A special thanks to Norm who will be the regular book cart steward! Donations of gently used paperbacks are gratefully accepted.
In September, Club members joined I Love a Clean San Diego at Lake Murray for the 2026 Coastal Cleanup Day. While trash may not be evident from the street we found quite a lot of litter - and a few territorial bees - along the walking trails just to the east of the lake across Baltimore Drive. Keeping trash out of the reservoir benefits people and wildlife and contributes to a healthier environment.
In early October the Club held its second yard sale fundraiser of the year and raised $1100 for the La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club Foundation to fund grants that benefit the community. Thank you to everyone who donated and purchased items, and volunteered before, during, and after the event - including a speedy yard sale breakdown during a rainstorm that arrived early! Special thanks to Jeff for once again hosting the sale at his home!
