4 of our members attended this year's District 5340 conference. They were Manuela and Hugo, Elly and Betty. Only Elly was there for the Friday night wine tasting, dinner and live auction to support Polio Plus. It was an absolutely picture perfect weekend!
The conference took place on Saturday and began with a continental breakfast, followed by a deeply moving tribute to the "First Responders" from our area in honor of the sacrifices they make every day to keep our people and our nation safe. There was a video to honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 followed by singing God Bless America in unison.
After we settled into our seats, there were many presentations about the great projects taking place in our district on behalf of other people in countries outside of ours. Next was a delicious lunch and time to chat with friends. After lunch, there were more learning opportunities, and then some time to work on a service project string wire and crimping it to create WAPI (water purification kits, play Corn Hole on the beach with Rotoract, or shop around Coronado.) This was followed by a delicious salmon dinner accompanied by a good band of musicians, and later dancing. On each table were two bottles of un-corked wine for us to share!
It was fun to meet up with friends from other clubs, have some good conversations about collaborating, and be inspired to do more good things together!
